Was Jesus Married?

According to a news story from CNN, there has been a fragment found where Jesus is referring to his wife.  What do you think?  Could Jesus have been married?   For many people, this is a sacrilegious thought, but for me, it doesn’t affect my faith.  If Jesus was married, that does not take away the messages that he left behind.   But I know that for some Christians, the idea of Jesus being married goes against their fundamental belief in his divinity.  What do you think?  Could Jesus be the son of God and still live as was expected by a Jewish man of that time period and also be a husband to Mary Magdalene?  For me, that only portrays more of his living the human experience and strengthens his sacrifice.  I would love to hear comments and opinions on this subject, but please keep them respectful.  This is about sharing thoughts and ideas.

You Are Loved By God

Today, I was driving down the road when I noticed two birds on a street light.  These two birds were not attractive birds.  They were big and black with curving sharp beaks and reddish heads.  They sat hunched over with their wings folded tightly against their bodies.  They did not seem to be enjoying the breeze from the ocean or the warmth of the day.  In all, these two birds were sitting there, somewhat depressingly.  As I approached the light, I saw the bird on the right lean over and gently place the tip of its beak against the bird on the left’s beak.  It was a soft gentle touch and the second bird leaned closer toward the first bird.  In that moment, these two carnivorous, slightly sad-looking birds went from depressing and intimidating to something else.  Their color became a shiny ebony.  Their heads glowed crimson in the soft gray light of the morning.  Their bodies seemed to curl against each other.  Through the touch of their beaks, they became more than just two birds of prey.  They became a couple, a pair, two beings that belonged together.

How often do we see people or places or things and judge them based on our own preconceived notions?  How often do we miss seeing something more because we are so caught up in what we expect to see?  How often do we miss beauty or peace or love because we can’t get past the ugliness and discord and anger that we are looking for?  These two birds were more than the vultures that I expected them to be just as what surrounds us is often more than we think it is.

Living doesn’t always feel beautiful.  It won’t always be peaceful.  (Ask anyone with teenagers, they’ll explain it very easily.)  But we can always find beauty and peace, even in the midst of the storm.  Last night was a messy evening at my house.  This morning, after much prayer, I decided to face the results with love rather than anger, with acceptance rather than resentment.  Putting aside my ugly emotions, deciding to move forward toward a solution, and finding the beauty in the  family, I was able to meet the other person with a pure heart and a quiet soul.

There is always beauty around you.  Whether it is the rush of the waves over the sand or the baby’s giggle in her daddy’s arms,  it’s always there.  And when your day seems so dark and everything feels like it’s falling around your ears, find that peace of beauty and hang onto it.  It could be the sweaty, stinky hug of your son after his football game or your best friend will listen to you while you vent.  It could be your dog who curls up next to you on the couch or the knowing that the man lying next to you will always be there.  I promise, if you can find one thing of beauty when everything else is tumbling around in the tornado of your life, you will find that moment of serenity that gets you through it…you will find beauty in what is not so beautiful.

Always Looking

I want an authentic life.  I want to be surrounded by people who are living out their dreams.  I want to be inspired by the beauty of nature, the purity of a child’s smile, and the bliss of people choosing to follow their hearts.  My life is one where I get to do work that absorbs me, enthrall me, but also gives me the freedom to make my own schedule, spend time with my children, enjoy nature, and know that I am helping to make the world a better place.  I have decided to make choices that are true to me and provide my children with love, knowledge, and positive experiences.

Some of those choices include simple things like making food out of whole, healthy ingredients  (My soup tastes good because it has real butter and cream in  it.) or by homeschooling my daughter to ensure that she gets a quality education.  I am more concerned about what my children actually learn over what people think that they should know.  I exercise because it’s good for my body, but I am not so ashamed of growing older that I stress out over a few extra pounds.  My body has gotten me through some very tense situations and it is strong and beautiful.  I am also not ashamed to color my hair or feel that I am hiding from aging.  I just don’t like the grays and I also like changing the color.

I am moving away from people who feel the need to criticize my life, correct what I say, or point out flaws.  My flaws are part of me, so I know each and every one of them on a personal level.  As always, I will work towards self-improvement, but I also embrace those parts of me that aren’t perfect because that’s me. I’m not perfect, but I am real.  I am now living   a life with people who love me, accept me, and who embrace me as I am.  I don’t judge and I am not asking for anyone’s approval.

I am living my life on my terms.  I am no longer worrying about the negativity that some people try to surround me with nor do I harbor any negative feelings towards those same people.  I hope that they can find the peace that I am finding and the joy that surrounds me.

I have an authentic life.  I hope the same for everyone else.  Find your passion and make it part of your daily life.  As I fall asleep, I cherish the rest my body needs as well as look forward to the morning.  Each morning, as I watch the sunrise, drink my tea, read my paper, plan my day, I know that I am living the life that God planned for me.  Each day is beautiful and it only gets better.
